Hello Woodturners,

This is your reminder about the meeting of the Magnolia Woodturners, Inc. (MWI) this Saturday, January 16, 2010; at 9:30 a.m. on the Jones County Junior College (JCJC) campus in Ellisville, Mississippi.  If you would like to see a map and other information about MWI, please click on:
http ://magnoliawoodturners.org/gpage1.html .

Member Bill Hunt, from Waynesboro, will present the live turning program for this meeting. He will demonstrate how he turns and assembles his first-class turkey callers, duck callers , and he says briefly show how he turns wooden pendants (neck wear). He has a growing market for these callers among hunters and they make prized gifts, if you are not a hunter.  For those interested, he will have on hand for purchase the required components that are not made of wood for these callers. Bill is an excellent woodturner and an enjoyable demonstrator so you will enjoy the meeting and learn something, as well.

Much of the work on programs for our meetings in the South has already been done for calendar year 2010, including meetings at Ben Morgan’s shop to see metal spinning and another in Hammond, LA at PMC Machinery:
http://www.pmcwood.com/. More details to follow later.

If you have an interest in woodturning and wish to continue as, or to become, a member of the Magnolia Woodturners, Inc. for CY 2010, all you need to do is pay the Calendar Year dues of $25 (eleven meetings). ‘Calendar Year’ means all memberships begin January 1, and end December 31 of the same year, regardless of when you renew or join in between. Early payment of your dues will be appreciated as it does benefit everyone by allowing the club to start early to line-up some of the better professional guest woodturners on the dates we need for our meetings.  Naturally, the better ones get their calendars filled early and we don’t commit before we have sufficient funds in our account. You can pay at this meeting or send your checks to our MWI treasurer, Archie Lancaster, at this address: 5325 Balmoral Drive, Jackson, MS 39211. Archie’s email address is Mailto:
alanca9377@aol.com if you have questions about the membership roster, dues, etc.  Archie is finally giving up his old Sears lathe and is purchasing the Nova 3000 from MWI.  (Congratulations on an excellent choice, Archie!)

You are certainly encouraged to bring something you have done for “Show and Tell” because it is a good thing to see what others like yourself are turning in their shops.

Also, if you have extra wood that you don't need for turning yourself, please consider bringing it to the meeting and sharing or swapping with others who don't currently have that luxury.  Roland Pimm shares his turning wood frequently with others and he said there is still some good cherry wood available at his previous house and he will tell you how you can get some on your way from the meeting.

Raymond Mars is our volunteer Librarian and he does an excellent job of transporting the large quantity of material and keeping it in order for us.  Items from the library are loaned and should not be checked out unless you are certain you will make the effort to return them within a reasonable time, usually 30 days. The entire library operates on the “Honor System”, so please remember that you are the only one responsible for checking-in the returned items by pulling the card and initialing it where shown, just as you did when you borrowed it. You can e-mail Raymond at
Mailto:marsrh@bellsouth.net . You can send Postal mail to him at: 120 Meadowview Ridge, Brandon, MS 39047, or call him at (601)919-0918.  Important! You must be a paid-up member to borrow from the MWI library!!  Raymond has made a new name tag carrying/filing case with name tags, unless you took yours home from the last meeting.

If you have not already done so, and wish to continue as, or become, a member of the Magnolia Woodturners, Inc. you need to pay the Calendar Year dues of $25.  ‘Calendar Year’ means all memberships begin January 1, and end December 31 of the same year, regardless of when you renew or join in between.  By paying early in the year, you and the club really benefit by allowing the Vice Presidents to make commitments and secure the better professional turners on the week-ends we need them for our demonstrations. You can pay at this meeting or send your checks to our new MWI treasurer, Archie Lancaster, at this address: 5325 Balmoral Drive, Jackson, MS 39211. Archie’s email address is Mailto:
alanca9377@aol.com if you have questions about the membership roster, dues,

If you are in the Jackson area and would like to carpool down you should be in the parking lot at Sutherland Lumber Co, 717 Highway 80 E, Pearl, MS no later than 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning. (You can get there by taking Exit 47B from I-20 East Bound.) Even if you are not in this immediate area it may be worth your time and gasoline to check around with some others to see about sharing rides.

It is time to get out of the house!! Don’t you agree?

Safe Turning
