Hello Woodturners, This is let you know that the Magnolia Woodturners, Inc. will meet this coming Saturday (June 19, 2008) in Ellisville, MS. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be held on campus at the Jones County Community College (JCJC) in the same building as previous meetings. You can find a map of the campus linked to our web site ( MWI ) and the building we meet is designated #39 ( Location ). The membership roster on our web site has been updated, also. For our meeting this month, Charlie White will demonstrate turned Christmas ornaments and John Stenmark will demo how to turn a wooden ball. If you want to know about either turning wood Christmas ornaments, which make wonderful gifts, or how to turning a wooden ball that is actually round, you will find this an especially useful meeting to attend. It has become necessary to shuffle our meeting months between our two locations because of a scheduling situation for a paid professional turner at the southern meeting location. That event will take place in Ellisville the week end of October 18-19 and will feature Dennis Liggett. The trade-off in meeting dates means that the August and November meetings will be in Canton and the September and October meetings will be in Ellisville. These last four meetings for the year should take place on the regular third Saturday of each month. There will be no December meeting. Rather than retype or rephrase the following information related to this meeting and several subsequent meetings, I am going to “cut and paste” the body of a message received from Terry Tjader.
”I thought I would let you know I placed an order for, and will have, some Starbond 2oz. bottles of CA for sale at the next meeting. $6.00 per bottle for thin or med. I know you are always looking for news letter material so I thought I fire this out to you. I was going to wait and try to take orders but that would get to be a big hassle. If the club is interested I would try to keep some on hand but I don't want to get stuck with a bunch of old CA. I am scheduled to do a Demonstration at the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi on Labor Day from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. I know it's hard to believe but it is free, so ya'll can plan to come out and heckle me. If it is allowed by the Guild I'll have some Labor Day Specials for sale so bring your checks or even CASH, Euro's if you got'em! I believe Bill Hunt was going to let you know about bringing any odd ball wood that you may not want to turn to the meeting for me. I had a few people ask me to demonstrate how I turn some of the weird pieces I do. I told Bill this sounds like a cool idea I get free wood and they get to see how a warped since of humor approaches turning. This is one of the benefits of be unschooled in turning as I don't have a preconceived notion that I can't or shouldn't do this. Keep spinning, and try to turn something too! Terry Tjader Woodturner”
Please don't forget to bring any surplus turning wood you have sitting around getting too dry and that you won't get around to ever turning. There are other turners who don't have access to a good source who will appreciate getting your extra wood. Several folks brought various used turning tools to sell at our last meeting in Canton, and that was a good thing for us as we all like to get bargains. “Show and Tell” is always popular as we all appreciate seeing what other people are turning. It is a good opportunity to ask questions and learn about how pieces were chucked, turned, hollowed, textured, finished, etc. Please remember to bring all library material you have out to the meeting. There is a lot of good stuff in our library and we have to keep it moving so everyone gets a turn to borrow it. Remember when you borrow something that it is the only copy we own, as we don't have backup copies to replace it with. Hope you can support John and Charlie by coming to this meeting as demonstrators do try to make their work a learning experience for all and it does require time and effort on their part. (Unfortunately for me, but I have a required “work day” at my deer camp so won't make it to this one.) If anyone wishes to bring a coffee pot, coffee, cups, etc. there will be some who will appreciate your effort. Safe Turning, Clyde
