January Meeting Follow Up
Well, guess what! Five of us made it to Magee and while stopped at McDonalds we ran into a man who had just come from Laurel and he said US 84 from Collins to Laurel was down to one lane of traffic and that traffic was traveling at 30-35 mph and some vehicles had ran off the road because of the weather conditions. We called Roland at home and told him what we had heard and he said Bill Hunt had already called him and said that he had started to the meeting and because of the road conditions he had turned around and gone home, also. We decided we had heard enough and told Roland we were headed back to Jackson.
Got a call this afternoon from Dale Anderson, who was with us this morning, and he had heard from Raymond Mars who said he had made it to the meeting and that they had eleven folks there and that they had a very good show and tell and that it was a good meeting. Thought you would like to hear how some other folks managed!
February Meeting Follow Up
It was raining but we had a good turn out. 27 were in attendance and two new members joined. Several guys from the south campus made the track north and we had a great show and tell session.
The woodcarvers did a presentation and solicited help with the Eagle Cane Program.
Charlie White always does a great job of teaching and sharing his knowledge. We enjoyed watching him demonstrate the technique of fitting finial tops & rings to hollow forms and boxes.
Bob Catledge brought free wood which included Bradford Pear and Black locust and 400 year old Magnolia. Thanks Bob for the free wood.
Show & tell was great. The guys down south have much more time to turn for some reason. What's up with that?
John Stenmark is working on the April demonstration when we will be hosting the "Knot-Head" Chris Ramsey. (the cowboy hat turner)
March Meeting Follow Up
It was a beautiful windy day in the neighborhood.
Great day to enjoy the breeze and open air atmosphere at Ben Morgan's shop.
21 were in attendance and 6 carpooled from Jackson.
Bill Hunt demonstrated a new tool being marketed by Hunter Tools.
Alvin Shilling demonstrated the new Monster Tool Hollowing Rig.
He also demonstrated the Shilling Shaving Removal Tool. Contact Alvin for pricing and availability. There is a waiting list.
Show & tell was great! Some of the work was amazing…. Terry Tjader finally sat down and stopped talking after the news media left the building. ;-)
Raymond Mars showed off some beautiful home made tools. He better keep a close eye on the big scraper he made from a joiner knife. After show & tell everyone split and high-tailed it to the house. I guess they were so intimidated by all of the impressive turnings it was fruitless to stay any longer and be humiliated further. LOL
Ben
As usual everyone enjoyed visiting with you and admiring your shop.
Thanks Ben for hosting our meeting. We appreciate it.
